Jessamine County residents with diabetes or pre-diabetes can learn how to manage their condition by attending a free diabetes management classes Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 from 9-11 a.m. at the Jessamine County Health Department (JCHD) located at 215 E. Maple St. in Nicholasville.
During the class, a certified diabetes educator will provide instruction on healthy eating, high and low blood sugars, diabetes medication, monitoring and managing diabetes, foot care, sick days, long-term complications and physical activity to help effectively manage diabetes and pre-diabetes.
“The diabetes management classes will benefit those who are newly diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes and those who have lived with this disease for some time,” according to JCHD registered dietitian Betty Bender.
JCHD offers diabetes-management classes five times per year (two in the fall, three between January and June). In addition to the diabetes-management classes, JCHD offers individual instruction for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes who would benefit from individual meal planning instruction.
