A Jessamine County man has been accused of first-degree criminal abuse of a 6-month-old child, according to the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office.
Eyon McCann, 32, of Nicholasville was arrested at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday by JSO detective John Bourne.
According to the sheriff’s office, McCann “caused serious physical injury to his minor child by pressing hard on the child’s head, leaving deep contusions. The child was taken to the UK hospital, where she remains.”
Chief deputy Allen Peel said he doesn’t believe the baby’s injuries are life-threatening.
“I don’t believe so at this time; I know the baby remained in the hospital for observation,” he said Wednesday morning.
The sheriff’s office declined to release the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We’re not releasing anything,” Peel said. “That’s part of the investigation.”
McCann was arraigned by video Wednesday morning in Jessamine District Court. He has a preliminary hearing Monday at 2 p.m. in district court.
McCann is being lodged in the Jessamine County Detention Center on a $10,000 full-cash bond.
The criminal-abuse charge is a Class C felony, punishable by 5-10 years in prison, if convicted.
