Nicholasville Police are looking for a man they say robbed Southern Bank in Nicholasville at gunpoint Friday evening.

The man was armed with a handgun when he entered the bank on Fairfield Drive around 6:15 p.m. and forced bank tellers to fill a bag with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.

The robber escaped out the back door of the bank as Nicholasville Police officers, responding  to an alarm triggered during the robbery, approached the bank from the front, Nicholasville Police Sgt. Scott Harvey said.

The robbery was caught on surveillance video, Harvey said. The suspect is described as a white male wearing dark clothes and a hat. He wore a scarf wrapped around his nose and mouth, police say.

Two other armed robberies have occurred in the Nicholasville area within the past two weeks.

The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a robbery that occurred around 8 p.m. last Tuesday at the Subway on Springdale Drive, and a robbery that occurred Jan. 31 at Concord Cleaners in the Bellerive Shopping Center.

It is too early in the investigation to determine whether this most recent robbery is connected to the previous two, Harvey said.

“We don’t think so right now, but we’re not ruling that out,” he said.

No one was injured in the robbery, he said.

Anyone with information about the bank robbery is asked to call the Nicholasville Police Department at 859-885-9467.
