The case against a Nicholasville man charged with 50 counts of rape and reportedly fathered a child by his victim will go to a Hardin County grand jury.
Alfred Charles Ivey Jr., 47, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in District Judge John Simcoe’s courtroom. The grand jury will decide whether there is enough evidence to bring the case to trial.
Ivey was arrested earlier this month by the Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office and transported to Hardin County, where he remains lodged on a $500,000 cash bond.
He is charged with 16 counts of first-degree rape of a victim younger than 12 and 34 counts of first-degree rape.
First-degree rape is a Class B felony unless the victim is younger than 12 or received serious injuries, in which case it is a Class A felony punishable by 20 to 50 years or life in prison.
