Nicholasville pair charged with burglaries in Georgetown

Two Jessamine Countians are lodged in the Scott County Detention Center after being arrested on second-degree burglary charges late Thursday.

Steven Woodford Graham, 24, of 107 Wolfe St., Nicholasville, and Barbara Leanne Johnson, 31, of 600 Keeneway Drive, Nicholasville, also are charged with third-degree criminal trespass.

Georgetown police Lt. Robert Swanigan said officer Chris Bayer responded to a call shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday from a resident of a home in the 100 block of Stapleton Way about intruders.

The female resident told police someone was attempting to kick in a back door and use a patio chair to break a sliding-glass door, Swanigan said. When those efforts failed, the person went around to the front door and kicked it three times, breaking the door.

The woman said a man fled when she turned on the front porch light, Swanigan said.

On arriving, Bayer began searching the area and found a man and a woman hiding in a fencerow of trees at Payne’s landing, Swanigan said.

The man tried to pull away and struggled with the officer before Bayer wrestled him to the ground and handcuffed him, Swanigan said.

The man also gave the officer a fake name, Swanigan said.

Graham also faces charges of first-degree mischief, resisting arrest, theft of identity and public intoxication by controlled substance, detention center records show.

Johnson also faces a charge of alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Both remain in the detention center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
