Nicholasville police are investigating an attempted murder and attempted suicide that occurred Thursday night around 9:50 on Strawberry Lane.
According to an NPD news release, officers responded to 244 Strawberry Lane in reference to an assault that had just occurred. When officers arrived, they found a female victim of the assault sitting in the driveway of a neighbor’s house at 236 Strawberry Lane.
The victim had several stab wounds on her upper torso. She told officers that Joseph Kenney allegedly forced his way into her residence that he sometimes shared with the victim, and assaulted her with a knife while inside the home.
“It was a domestic situation,” Officer Kevin Grimes said. “During the struggle, she dropped her cell phone and the battery fell out of it and she was unable to call 911. When he stabbed himself multiple times in the residence, he ran out and she ran out to the neighbor’s house and they called 911.”
Kenney fled the scene on foot and was found near Lake Mingo Park. Officers approached Kenney and found that he had stabbed himself multiple times in the abdominal area and had a large stab wound to his throat.
Kenney and the victim were transported to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center by Jessamine County EMS. The victim was later released; Kenney is in the medical center’s intensive care unit.
Police have not released the name of the victim.
