Nicholasville under voluntary water-conservation advisory

The Nicholasville water department is asking residents to take it easy when it comes to water usage until further notice.

The recent bout of hot temperatures and dry weather prompted this measure.

This is for city water customers who live in Nicholasville, other areas of Jessamine County and Fayette County.

According to a news release from Nicholasville utilities director Tom Calkins, the advisory is necessary due to declining flows from the Kentucky River and long-range weather forecasts predicting minimal rain in the region.

The advisory recommends that customers reduce/eliminate discretionary water use, such as lawn sprinkling and pool filling.

The city’s water department serves more than 30,000 residents and businesses in Nicholasville and Jessamine and Fayette counties.
