Officer shot (October 31, 2012) |
Nicholasville police are still searching for a man who shot an officer in the back Oct. 19, and the department is doubling up on a reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
According to a Nicholasville police news release, the reward has increased to $10,000, up from the original $5,000. The reward is in addition to a reward being offered by Crime Stoppers for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who shot officer John Paul Rainey.
Rainey was on patrol in the Miles Road area when he spotted a “suspicious subject” ducking between houses. Rainey got out of his patrol car to investigate and was shot in the back panel of his bulletproof vest as he searched for the individual. Rainey spun around and returned fire after he was shot. The suspect then ran off on foot from Maple Leaf Lane.
Officer Kevin Grimes said it was unclear if Rainey’s shots wounded the man.
Following the shooting, the man fled on foot from Maple Leaf Drive.
There wasn’t much in the way of a description of the suspect other than a male wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the police department at 859-885-9467.
