The annual Rock Fence Park concert series will begin Saturday with four dates going throughout the month of June.

“We've kind of put all of our eggs in a couple really top-notch bands this year,” organizer Teg Evans said. “These are groups that have never been to Rock Fence Park.”

New to the concert series this year will be the extreme karaoke contest this Saturday, Evans said.

“Karaoke is something people have suggested for the last few years, and we thought we'd try it,” he said. “We've got some great prizes to give away for the winners.”

Karaoke registration begins at 6:30 p.m. with the event starting at 7 p.m. There is a $5 contest entry fee for contestants, and songs will be selected from a preapproved list.

The June 2 concert will feature the cover band Mercy Men.

“The Mercy Men are probably one of the greatest cover bands on the planet,” Evans said. “This past Saturday night, they were the featured band for Dancing with the All Stars in Lexington.”

Evans said the group performs blues, rock and funk.

“They perform everything from James Brown to Chicago,” he said. “They’re great, and I’m excited about it.”

The Dean Osborne Band will perform during the June 9 concert.

“I've been trying to get Dean Osborne up here for a couple years, and he will be here on June 9,” Evans said. “He always puts on a good show.”

Osborne will perform some of bluegrass music’s greatest songs such as “Blue Moon of Kentucky.”

The concert series will finish June 16 with Ronn Crowder and the Rawhide Band, who will entertain the audience with blues, country and rock.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. Parking is available in the Central Bank lot and the city lot on Oak Street, Evans said.

The concerts are weather permitting, except for the June 9 concert.

“The Dean Osborne Band will play somewhere,” Evans said. “Right now, I'm working on an alternative location.”
