Sheriff's office investigating drowning in Jessamine
The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning in Jessamine County. According to Chief deputy Allen Peel, John David McFadden, 35, of Lexington, fell off the a bridge on Old Camp Nelson Road and into the Kentucky River around 2 a.m. Sunday. It happened about five miles south of Nicholasville.

Peel said McFadden may have been under the influence of alcohol when he fell.

“There is no foul play suspected at this time,” Peel said.

Peel said he was with drinking beer with a friend when the accident happened.

“It was jus them two, and they were just down there on that old bridge,” Peel said. “It was about a 100-foot drop from the bridge to the river and he went into the river.”

Jessamine County coroner Michael Hughes said all indications point to a drowning rather than the impact from the fall.

“I’m 99 percent sure it was a drowning,” Hughes said. We’re going to do a toxicology to see what he’s got in him.”

The death investigation is ongoing by the coroner’s office and the sheriff’s office.
