Anyone interested in protecting and serving the community of Wilmore is welcome to come out Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wilmore United Methodist Church in the parking lot, fire chief Jimmy Powers said.
The fire department is hosting a recruitment rally and looking for 10 to 15 Wilmore residents to answer the call.
“They need to be dedicated, ready to help and able to work well with others,” Power said. “It’s also very rewarding.”
The life of a volunteer firefighter is not an easy one and recruits should have a supportive family before deciding to join with the Wilmore department, Powers said.
Powers said that he has some volunteers who have worked with other fire departments and also new recruits who eventually move on to larger cities after the high-quality training they receive through the Wilmore department.
