Wilmore Road adds another school's traffic with Nicholasville Elementary primary center

Two years after creating a traffic flow to accommodate vehicles for the new Jessamine Early Learning Village, school-district officials are back at it, developing another plan to manage even more traffic on the tract off Wilmore Road that holds four schools.

This time, the complication is the addition of Nicholasville Elementary School’s first, second and third grades in the unrenovated portion of the JELV building. The board of education approved early start and end times for the primary center in May; on Monday, officials told the board their plan for directing traffic and communicating with parents.

A letter from assistant superintendent Matt Moore will inform parents about the procedures and urge them to send their children on school buses. Parents who opt to transport their own students to the primary center will have drop-off from 7:15-7:30 a.m. in the Warner Elementary School parking lot and pick-up starting at 2:20 p.m. behind Warner.

The first three grades of Nicholasville will be in the primary center this year while the main building undergoes a comprehensive renovation; the fourth and fifth grades will attend school in the main building away from the construction.

The school day for the primary center will begin at 7:30, allowing time for traffic to dissipate before JELV’s start at 7:45 and Warner’s start at 8 a.m. Jessamine Career and Technology Center and the Royse central-office building also share space on the property that has three access points along 1,000 feet of Ky. 29 (Wilmore Road).

The district is encouraging parents who may be unfamiliar with the traffic patterns to test-drive the route before school starts; superintendent Lu Young said Monday that signage would be in place by Aug. 8, a week before school starts.
