A portion of East College Street in Wilmore from Lexington Road (Ky 29) past Walnut Street was closed today and will remain closed for at least six weeks.
As one of the two main entrances into Wilmore, the city has created a detour when coming in from the east that sends traffic entering the city onto North Walnut Street or onto Gillespie Street when exiting.
Gillespie Street was a one-way road, but city officials have suspended parking and opened it up to through traffic.
Lexington Avenue and West College Street remain open.
The closure is the beginning stages of the Wilmore Streetscape Project, which will eventually close Gillespie Street to motor vehicle traffic altogether.
