Ernest Verlon Estes Sr., 87, husband of Ruth Wells Estes, of Bethel Road died Feb. 27. He was a deacon and Sunday-school teacher for many years until his health prevented his service to continue. He was the son of the late Joseph Ray and Rose Crawley Estes. Additional survivors include two sons, Ernest V. and wife Connie Estes Jr., and Steven Ray and wife Melissa Estes; a son-in-law, Bronce Hager; three grandchildren, Ernest Verlon and wife Jennifer Estes III, Steven Ray Estes II, and Andrea Estes Dunn; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Jimmy Estes; four sisters, Dorothy Burton, Lula “Shug” Clark, Mary Carter and Pauline Hall; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Estes Hager. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Tom Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday.
