George Franklin Garland Jr., 72, husband of Juanita Carol Perkins Garland, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 2, 1939, in Fayette County to the late George Franklin and Della Mae Sams Garland. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Reservist and was a retired general manager of equipment sales and rentals/special events.  Additional survivors are two children, Dana and husband Jule Philpot, and Sherry and husband Daryl Neergaard; three grandchildren, Corey Neergaard, and Hanna and Chase Philpot; two sisters, Betty Ellen Mobley and Joan Woodall; and other family members. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Eades Regan. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home. Burial was in Richmond Cemetery.  Visitation was Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Bearers were Al Saunders, Howard Rupard, Danny Thompson, Bobby Perkins, Jule Philpot and Todd Sims.
