Dr. Nancy Dale Peel, 80, of Winchester passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, at her home. Dr. Peel was born in Nicholasville on April 28, 1932, to the late Bob and Bonnie Hatton Peel. She earned bachelor-of-science and master-of-science degrees in elementary education from the University of Kentucky, a Ph.D. in elementary education from Indiana University, and the doctorate of divinity degree from Harvard University. She was a distinguished professor of elementary education at Eastern Kentucky University, an active member of the EKU Alumni Association, a member of the EKU Hall of Fame, a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a sponsor of Kappa Delta Tau, a member and past regent of the Jemima Boone Chapter DAR and an associate member of Hart Chapter, and a member of the Nicholasville Christian Church. She served as president of the Clark County Teacher’s Association.
Survivors include her sister, Margaret Ann and husband Butch Fugate of Lexington; her brother, Joe and wife Jane Peel of Nicholasville; five nieces and nephews, Brenda Staggs, Bruce Warner, Barry Peel, John Peel and Deanna Taylor; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews. She was preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Billy J. Warner, and her special friend, Dr. Martha Sudduth.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Scobee Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Lee Cruse and the Rev. Jeff Mandrell. Burial was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Nicholasville.
