The East Jessamine cheerleading squad is usually on the basketball court or football field cheering for their Jaguars to win, but this past weekend, the cheer Jags were being rooted on at the 12th Region championships in Boyle County.
“The girls have worked so hard this year,” East coach Kristen Mulcahy said. “We’ve put a lot more harder things into our routine for regionals so that we could compete against the better teams.”
East, competing in the class-AA co-ed division, took first place and will advance to the state finals Jan. 26 in Bowling Green.
“They’re so excited to be going to state,” Mulcahy said.
The addition of Cameron Back and Jonathan Agee has led to more cheers and stunts for the now co-ed team.
“They’ve changed the image of the team and the mentality,” Mulcahy said.
The team includes three seniors: Sidney Bisschop, Kayla Randall and Katline Sisson.
East also had several members named academic all-state and honorable mention.
