Jessamine County will send three individuals and two relay teams to the state swimming and diving meet in Louisville later this month.

On Friday, East and West Jessamine high schools competed in the regional meet at Falling Springs in Versaillies.

West Jessamine’s Reid Allen, Britt Fugmann and the boys’ 200-yard medley relay all qualified for state. The boys’ 200-yard freestyle team will be an alternate.

East Jessamine’s Josh Adams also qualified for state. The freshman placed fourth in the boys’ 100-yard butterfly. As a school, East placed 14th in the region out of 18 schools.

Allen, a senior at West, placed second in the boys’ 100-yard breaststroke with a time of  1:04.17. As a junior, Allen competed in the 100-yard breaststroke at state.

Fugmann qualified for state in two events — girls’ 50-yard freestyle and girls’ 100-yard freestyle.

In the 50-yard freestyle, the freshman came in third place with a time of 25.57 seconds, beating her preliminary time of 26.05.

Fugmann also took third place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.28, once again beating her prelim time of 56.95.

Overall, the Lady Colts placed 11th out of 18 schools with 35 points.

The Colts’ 200-yard medley relay team placed fifth with a time of 1:50.71. The team is made up of Michael Peck (eighth grade), Reid Allen (senior), Chance Barney (senior) and Wyatt Lamb (sophomore).
The 200-yard freestyle team placed sixth with a time of 1:39.24 and was edged out by Fort Knox by .12.

The squad is made up of Barney, Austin Pasch (freshman), Lamb, and Allen.

The West boys placed sixth out of 18 schools with a combined 89 points.

The 2012 Pannell Swim Shop/KHSAA State Swimming and Diving Meet will be Feb. 23-25 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium on the campus of the University of Louisville.
