Burnside leads East girls' soccer to 6-2 victory in season opener

East Jessamine senior Devon Burnside wasted no time getting her season started Monday night. She scored four goals in the Lady Jags’ (1-0) 6-2 win over Danville (0-1).

“It was a typical first game. We have several things we need to work on,” East coach DeAngelo Wiser said. “We need to tighten our defending down.”

Burnside opened the scoring in the 13th minute and found the net again about five minutes later as East was able to outshoot Danville throughout the night.

“(Burnside) takes things serious; she’s a warrior and competitor, and she took the reins to get things done,” Wiser said. “When she does that, good things happen.”

The Lady Admirals were able to get on the board with 13 minutes before halftime and make it a 2-1 game.

Coming out of the break, Danville struck fast, scoring in the first minute and tying the game 2-2. However, it was Burnside to break the tie with her third goal of the night only seconds later.

Burnside added another goal in the 48th minute, and senior Makensie Danaher and sophomore Taylor Pence scored later in the match.

East Jessamine is on the road Thursday night at Madison Southern at 6 p.m. The Lady Eagles are 1-0.
