The West Jessamine girls’ bowling team and West’s Dustin Stapleton competed at the 2012 state bowling championships last week in Louisville.
The girls’ team championships took place last Thursday. West Jessamine’s 954 in the qualifying round gave the Lady Colts a No. 9 seed out of 16 schools. In the first round, West faced No. 8 seed Graves County.
After winning the first game 154-132, the Lady Colts dropped the next three — 162-137, 176-139, 183-146 — to fall to the Lady Eagles.
Graves County lost in the round of eight to eventual state champion Pleasure Ridge Park.
In the singles championships last Friday, West Jessamine’s Kaitlin Duff placed 30th and Stapleton placed eighth.
Duff rolled a 203-146-117 to give her a three-game total of 466.
Stapleton rolled a 199-210-237 for a three-game total of 646. He made the semifinals by five pins. In his first game of the semis, Stapleton rolled a 217, fifth best in the group. But in his second game, he dropped to a 178, worst in the group. He missed the finals by 42 pins.
