Before baseball season was under way, West Jessamine pitcher Zach Settle made his college choice official. The senior signed with Asbury University on Feb. 23.
“It’s a big relief (to be signed),” Settle said. “You don’t have to worry about how you throw one day if a scout’s there ... you just go out there and play baseball. It just takes a lot of pressure off of you.”
West’s baseball program has been on the upswing the past few years as the Colts have won 85 games in Settle’s first three seasons. That success has helped Settle and other Colts get colleges attention.
“Coach (Jody Hamilton) has always pushed me to be better than what I am and the success I’ve had her really influenced Asbury to look at me,” Settle said.
Settle said he is looking forward to the college atmosphere and being able to play baseball beyond high school.
He plans on studying special education.
Settle’s senior season at West begins on Tuesday.
