Fred Shuttlesworth and the civil rights movement

Fred Shuttlesworth was with  Rev. Ralph Abernathy, left at the front of the marchers, and the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., right, on April 12, 1963, as they led a march on Birmingham, Ala., City Hall, above.  The last of the civil rights movement's "Big Three," with King and Abernathy, Shuttlesworth founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957.
