STANFORD — A 17-year-old Fort Logan High School student died July 5 after a motorcycle crash in the early morning hours, officials said.
Kenny Creech, who would have been a senior in the fall, was driving his motorcycle on Ky. 501 near Kings Mountain at 1:50 a.m., Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said.
Creech lost control of the motorcycle when he tried to negotiate a curve and was thrown from the vehicle. His head struck a fence post.
Paramedics airlifted Creech to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington. He was pronounced dead at 5:08 p.m. July 5, Fayette County Deputy Coroner John McCarty said. The cause of death was a head injury.
A funeral will be held for Creech Tuesday at Spurlin Funeral Home.
Creech had a passenger on the motorcycle, who allegedly fled the scene of the crash, Folger said.
As of Monday morning, sheriff's deputies had still not been able to contact Bobby Cutter, whose age they did not know, regarding the crash, Folger said.
Besides having questions about the crash, officials also want to make sure he receives proper medical treatment for any injuries he may have suffered.
Authorities suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, Folger said.
