SOMERSET — After remaining in hiding for two days, a Somerset man suspected in a string of area burglaries turned himself into police Friday.
James Lopez Jr., 42, was transported to the Casey County Detention Center on an active arrest warrant for burglary and theft from Casey District Court. He is being held without bond until arraignment.
Along with Casey County, Lopez is suspected of burglaries in Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln, Mercer, Pulaski and Anderson counties.
According to Lt. Shannon Smith of the Somerset Police Department, Lopez had been in hiding in an undisclosed location until Detective Chris Gates used a mutual connection to make contact with him. Lopez agreed to surrender to authorities and did so at 11 a.m. Friday in Eubank, police said.
On Wednesday, Mercer County Deputy Scott Elder identified Lopez as a suspect in seven different burglaries over the past two weeks that all showed similar patterns of forced entry through a side or rear door out of sight of the road.
Evidence recovered at some of the burglaries helped identify Lopez as a suspect, Elder said.
