STANFORD — A former Lincoln Deputy Jailer will be spending some time on the other side of the bars.
Scott Roberts of Waynesburg has pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct for having sex with an inmate while he was a deputy jailer at the Lincoln County Regional Jail.
Roberts was sentenced to two years probation, beginning with 10 days in jail and 30 days of house arrest.
Lincoln Jailer David Gooch said Roberts will be housed somewhere besides Lincoln County for his jail time.
"I don't have enough isolation cells to occupy one for 10 days and I think it would be in his best interest and in the jail's best interest to house him somewhere else," he said.
Roberts has also been banned from seeking employment with any jail or other law enforcement agency for 10 years.
Roberts was indicted on a third-degree rape charge in May for allegedly having sex with a female inmate in October and November. Roberts resigned from his position at the jail in November, according to information from the jail.
"I am pleased that this investigation and prosecution quickly led to an adjudicated case," Gooch wrote in a press release. "The integrity of all staff at the jail must be above reproach. Anything less will be dealt with appropriately."
Roberts is one of three former jail employees criminally charged as the result of an investigation by Captain Justin Parsons of the jail's Internal Affairs Unit.
Former Deputy Jailer Justin Pearson was charged with first-degree promoting contraband and trafficking in a controlled substance in March. Former Deputy Jailer Gabriel Owens was charged with second-degree promoting contraband in May.
Both of those cases are still pending.
