STANFORD — A trial date has been set for the man accused of shooting at a police officer in front of the Stanford Walmart.

Jackie Murphy, 71, was indicted last month on one count of attempted murder for allegedly shooting at Officer Tim Morris as he fled from Walmart after being detained for shoplifting.

Murphy pleaded not guilty Friday and his trial is scheduled to begin May 2.

Murphy's Attorney David Marshall declined to comment on the case as he left the courthouse with Murphy on Friday.
