Golden LivingCenter of Stanford made a monetary donation to Fort Logan Cooperative Ministries to aid in the restocking of their depleted food pantry shelves.
Director of Marketing Jacquie Smith said that Golden LivingCenter donates $1000 to a non-profit organization every year. They chose Fort Logan Ministries as this year’s recipient because the food bank resources are beginning to thin while the need for assistance across the county continues to grow.
A staple in the county for more than 24 years, Fort Logan Ministries provides much needed assistance to families in numbers that continue to swell. Coordinator Nancy Roller said that families receiving assistance has increased this year in large part due to the recession. Roller signs 20-25 new families up each month and said that this year is worse than last. Recipients are from low-income households, recently laid off, or have been injured and lost their jobs.
In a show of support, State Representative Danny Ford (R) came to Fort Logan Ministries for the check presentation. “Happy to be here and to be a part of it,” Ford said. He said that he appreciates what the ministry does for the community and the spirit of giving showed by Golden LivingCenter. “It’s the way it’s supposed to be,” Ford said in regard to local businesses supporting the community.
A couple of small grants were given to Fort Logan Ministries, but by far, donations are what keep the doors open. The public can donate non-perishable items and gently-used coats at their main office on 302 Church Street in Stanford, or call (606)365-3390. Golden LivingCenter, along with the Stanford Rotary Club, is partnering with the Blue Grass Community Action organization and is accepting food donations until Nov. 15.
