Hustonville Elementary School council will begin interviewing applicants to replace former Principal David Morris tonight.
At the end of the school year, Morris announced he was stepping down from his position to accept an administrator job with Boyle County Schools.
The council will interview four applicants in closed sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, Superintendent Karen Hatter said.
Four more applicants will be screened before potential interviews and the school is accepting further applicants until May 30, Hatter said.
So far, applicants are a mix of local and out-of-district people. The applicants also are a mix of people with and without prior experience as principals, she said.
The criteria on which the council will base its selection include strong leadership and communication skills, an understanding of school culture and ability to discipline appropriately, among other qualities.
The council hopes to select a new principal by early June, Hatter said.
