Around 11:30 Frederick Hargis, 26, of Somerset was stopped in the northbound lane of US 27 by highway construction that reduced the roadway to a single lane. Waiting behind Hargis and his two passengers for the road to clear were Darrell Wesley, 59, and Brenda Wesley, 60, both of Science Hill.
According to a police report, Curtis Hannah, 29, of Waynesburg, was traveling north on US 27 as well, but was looking down at a piece of mail and failed to notice the two stopped vehicles in his path until it was too late. Hannah skidded over 130 feet before colliding with the Wesley vehicle, driving it into Hargis’.No one in the Hargis vehicle was injured, but members of Lincoln County Fire Station 8 had to use their extraction tools to extricate Brenda Wesley from her Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Wesley was tended to by members of Waynesburg EMS while the firefighters cut away the roof of the truck. Wesley was transported to Fort Logan Hospital by ambulance.
