LA GRANGE — A Lincoln County woman charged with shooting her husband in the head while he slept has been transferred to a state correctional psychiatric center for evaluation.
Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger said Tamara Richie, 50, of New Road in Waynesburg, was transferred to the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center in La Grange on Nov. 1.
It will likely be two or three weeks before a psychiatric evaluation is complete and Richie is transferred back to Lincoln County, Folger said.
Richie was arrested the morning of Oct. 25 after a family member told authorities Richie had killed her husband.
Folger and a deputy discovered the body of Richie's husband, David, at the couple's home on New Road.
"He had been shot in the head while in his bed," Folger said Oct. 25. "I believe he was asleep."
Tamara Richie was arrested at the home of a family member shortly after that and charged with murder.
Authorities allege David Richie was shot and killed Oct. 22, three days before the discovery of the body and Tamara Richie's arrest.
Folger said he has not determined exactly what Tamara Richie did during the days between the death of her husband and her arrest, but he now has surveillance video showing her at different stores in the area making purchases.
Tamara Richie did not talk after her arrest and Folger said Tuesday he believes her silence has continued ever since.
"As far as I know, she's not speaking at all," he said. "Not to anyone."
