HUSTONVILLE — Marc Spivey officially resigned from his position as Hustonville mayor Tuesday night.
Spivey, who withdrew unexpectedly from his re-election bid last month, provided city council members with a short, to-the-point letter stating he would be resigning from his post.
Council members accepted Spivey's resignation during the city council meeting, which was chaired by councilman Brett Witte.
The council scheduled a special meeting for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 13 to appoint a new mayor, who will finish out the year before newly elected mayor David Peyton takes over in January.
Peyton won a four-way write-in campaign for the mayor position during Tuesday's election, garnering 66 votes.
City Council members also voted to hire Stanford attorney Jonathan Baker as the city's new legal counsel.
Baker replaces former city attorney Carol Hill, who stepped down last month for family reasons.
Witte expressed some concern about hiring Baker before a new mayor is in place, but the council ultimately voted in favor of hiring him.
