Bro. Charles Samuel Dean Hampton, 78, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Monday, July 23, at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.
Born Jan. 3, 1934, in Rockcastle County, Charles was a son of the late Frank and Mary Thomas Hampton. He was a retired minister and electrician and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vistil Hampton; a son, David Hampton, a daughter, Juanita Hampton Cunningham; a brother, Mose Hampton; and two sisters, Patsy Allen and Imogene Hampton.
Survivors include a son, Joe (Charlotte) Hampton of Stanford; daughters, Priscilla (Gerald) Heddon and Joyce (Bobby) Heddon, both of Andrews, N.C.; a brother, Burdice Ray Hampton of Erlanger; a sister, Wanda Banks of Dayton, Ohio; a special nephew, Tony Ray Hampton of Pensacola, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Brandie and Josh Hampton, Heather Brown, Jonathan, B.J., Anthony and Nacole Heddon and Danielle Stallcup; and 13 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today (July 26) at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon with Bros. Jerry Ballinger and Billy Joe Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the Maple Grove Cemetery.
