While I may not have a child in school, I was out raged by the events of 1-30-13. As you may recall there were some bad storms that went through the whole state. As I watched the T.V. and listened to the weather ban I was starting to get very concurned.
The closer the strom got, the closer it got to the time that the kids would have to go out into the storm. I watched the T.V. as school after school either closed or at least went on a hour delay I could not find Lincoln.
What happened? Why was all those buses and children sent out in a storm? Would a hour delay have been such a big deal? Did someone think it would be easier to just put everyone in danger? I could understand if it was 1913 and not 2013 if you were caught by surprise by the storm, but surely that can't be the case, not in this day and time. So just what could it be. I asked others this question and over and over I got the same answer. "Money".
No this surely can't be, can it. Please someone tell me that money isn't more important than people. Who makes this designation anyway. Is it one person or a board?
I later heard through the grape vine that the bus drivers were told to wate 10 minutes before heading out. Really? What about the kids that didn't know they would have to wate an extra 10 minutes for the bus outside in the strom.
But the icing on the cake was the next morning Lincoln was put on a hour delay but not until 6:30 a.m. Again, really? I know that you can't please everyone, but surely there is a better way. After all isn't the most important thing the kids and keeping them safe?
