LEXINGTON, KY - The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its NCAA Division III All-American teams Thursday at the Final Four in Salem, Va., and Transylvania's Ethan Spurlin was on the third team.Earlier in the week, Spurlin, a junior who led Transy to the Heartland Conference regular season championship in 2012 and to an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship, was named to the NABC's All-Midwest District first team as well as to the D3hoops.com All-Midwest Region squad.The former Lincoln standout led Transy in scoring at 16.8 points a game and in rebounding with 6.4 boards a contest. He was the HCAC Player of the Year and a member of the All-HCAC first team.Transy finished the 2012 season with a record of 23-5, losing to Carroll in the NCAA tournament. The Pioneers won the HCAC regular season crown by four games. The appearance in the NCAA tournament was the fourth for Transy in the past six years.Ray Askew (Albertus Magnus), Chris Blees (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Winston Douglas ( Medgar Evers), Greg Ross (Centre), Corey Shontz (John Carroll), Ralph Temgoua (St. Lawrence), and Perry Wright (Widener) were also named to the third team by the NABC.A total of 24 players were named to three All-American teams.Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches.
