  1. A metaphor for life

    Saturday, July 21, 1973, the first day of the second month of summer, began in an unusual and unexpected way. Looking forward to an exciting day on a Norwegian fjord, we were greeted by gray clouds, a bone-chilling mist, and a temperature of 35 degrees. I, along with most of those in the group, were not dressed for such summer weather. But we should have been better prepared, for we were in Norway, about 250 miles south of the Artctic Circle.
