  7. Fiscal Court gives initial approval to district boundary changes

Tuesday, the Lincoln County Fiscal Court approved the first reading of an ordinance that would realign the county's voting precincts to more evenly distribute voters in each district as required by state election laws. A committee worked with County Clerk Sonny Spoonamore to move precinct lines to ensure that voters have fair representation on the Fiscal Court. The plan, if approved will increase the first magisterial district by around 400 citizens, decrease District 2 by almost 500, increase District 3 by 400 and decrease the fourth district by almost 400. Each magistrate will then represent between approximately 6,000 and 6,300 citizens. Currently, the smallest district, District 3 has 5,809 and District 4 has the most at 6,586. The Fiscal Court will have an opportunity to provide final approval on the plan at its next meeting, Monday, Oct. 10.
