  5. Harry Enoch's Where in the World: G. Lee Wainscott, the Ale-8-One man

With three different rail lines coming through the city, turn-of-the-century Winchester was something of a boomtown. Business opportunities at the close of the 1900s brought a number of visionary men to Clark County seeking to make their fortunes. One of these was G. Lee Wainscott, soft drink inventor and founder of the highly successful Ale-8-One Bottling Co. He was born in Owenton, Ky., in 1867, the son of George W. and Elizabeth (Hancock) Wainscott. His parents gave him the name “Lee,” to which he later added “George” because he wanted to be referred to as “G. Lee Wainscott.” Lee had a fascinating career, of which we can only touch on the highlights here.
