1. Rope toys continue to kill dogs

A “foreign body” is the term we use to describe anything other than food that your pet may have swallowed. It can be very complicated to determine whether a particular foreign body will make your pet sick. The most difficult cases of foreign body ingestion occur whenever the pet owner doesn’t know that their pet swallowed something.

  11. LIFE MATTERS: Just another manic Thursday

My, oh my, no time for sweet potato pie this Thanksgiving. We’ve got to rush out and catch the sales at Walmart, Toys R Us, and Sears by 8 p.m., Target by 9 p.m., then Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Best Buy at midnight. And oh yes, thank you Kmart for that breather between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., Thanksgiving Day, giving us just enough time to scarf down the turkey and dressing before full-throttling ahead on our shopping tour until 11 p.m. Friday.

Most of the time pet owners aren’t too concerned about the various objects, play toys, and things found in nature that their pets chew on. This is primarily because pets seldom seem to have any difficulty with their favorite chew toys. Actually, it is often very comical to watch a pet spend hours playing with something as simple as a plastic water bottle or bouncy ball.

  21. K9 CORNER: Keep dog active with new game

A reader asked about the game of Treibball, which I wrote about back in November 2011. This is a variation of herding using different sizes of balls that the dog is trained to push through “gates” like a herding dog would corral sheep. The question got me thinking of another game I wrote about in 1998 called “push the ball.”
