17. DVD review: 'Melancholia' is a multilayer metaphor

This strange film from Lars von Trier (“Breaking the Waves,” “Dogville”), which topped my favorites list for 2011, is now available on Blu-ray disc and DVD. It's an impossible movie to categorize sensibly: One can call it “Ingmar Bergman meets Michael Bay,” which is partly true and partly ridiculous. In my version of this imperfect exercise, “favorite” is almost (but not exactly) congruent with “best.”
