  11. 10 Years Later: Remembering 9/11

  13. Good night, John Boy

When I decided to have my cable disconnected, I have to admit, I was feeling pretty virtuous. No more wasting time with pointless TV, I thought — from now on, only high-minded activities.

  19. Grief a complicated and misunderstood emotion

Since I first started writing this column about two years ago, I have had more compliments about the article covering the five stages of grief. Repeatedly, I’ve had readers comment about the grief article and many have asked if I would consider reissuing the article. My response was, “Sure, but you might want to save the paper this time or stop by my office and I will be glad to print a copy from my laptop for you.” I feel truly blessed to have the opportunity to share my experiences and stories with all of you.

As you all know, we have two wonderful shelter cats, Pierre and Bella. We flew with them to our new home in Colorado and, aside from the fact that they pretty much screeched the entire way, they did recover pretty quickly and have adapted to their new home beautifully.

  23. Red Shoe Report: Escaping the pit after 1,095 days

This year marked the fourth Thanksgiving without my dad. He died a week before Thanksgiving in 2008. I remembered wondering that day if holidays, birthdays, even ordinary days, would always feel so sad. My mom was still crying most of the time, and I spent most of my time begging her to try and get out of the recliner where she spent most of her time, to get dressed and try to continue with her life.
