On Saturday, April 28, the Nicholasville Police Department along with hundreds of law-enforcement agencies across the United States will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Program. This program is designed to allow residents to turn over expired prescription and over the counter drugs so that they may be disposed of in the proper manner. Experts say that our nation’s water system contains unsettling amounts of prescription medications due to these items being flushed into the water system. This take back program is a safe and effective way to get rid of any of these types of medications. When you bring your expired or unused medicines to one of the locations listed below there are no questions asked. Please try to have all items dropped off by 1 p.m.

  21. Editorial: Kentucky cannot afford to wait for strong pill mill legislation

On April 12, lawmakers will assemble for the last day of the 60-day session. While the General Assembly concluded the bulk of its work before leaving Frankfort last Friday, it left one of the most critical pieces of legislation for our state and communities uncompleted.  The General Assembly has yet to pass House Bill 4, commonly referred to as the pill mill bill. The measure, which would provide oversight of pain clinics and greater monitoring of prescription drug abuse, has strong bipartisan support in both chambers and from the Governor.  In addition, city officials from every corner of our state have advocated for passage of this legislation as essential to protecting the quality of life in our communities.
