    Saying, “I know no one attended the (public) meeting, but it kills my soul to have to ask for this,” Lincoln County School Board Member Tim Jackson said before voting along with four others Thursday evening to increase the annual school tax on real estate and tangible property by four percent. The board was required by statute to advertise and hold a public meeting on the proposed increase but no one attended it.

  7. Audit report suggests need for tighter tax-penalty waiver controls

    A recent audit report released by Kentucky state auditor Crit Luallen shows Jessamine County Sheriff Kevin Corman granted more than $70,000 in penalty waivers on 211 tax bills during the 2009 collection season. The waivers, which were only for penalty fees, not the actual taxes themselves, went to 126 applicants, according to documents previously supplied by the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office.
