If there is one thing Days Divide does not want to be, it's labeled — not by the music industry and not by their audience.

If there is one thing Days Divide does not want to be, it's labeled — not by the music industry and not by their audience. They aren't backed by a mainstream production label, nor do they fall under the stereotypical label of a "Christian band."...

  5. What has become of our country?

I wonder where our beloved country is heading. I ordered my sandwich at Chick-fil-A to commend a Christian man who expressed his view on what marriage has been for thousands of years. Our president agreed until he became politically correct. I...

  11. Life Matters: When travelers find each other

My wife and I were the only customers in the souvenir and gift shop, lone shoppers during an off-season in Daytona Beach, Fla. The lady at the cash register was kind but guarded, like the person checking your ID at airport security. But something about this lady intrigued me: Was she shy or resentful? Uncaring or prudent? Calloused or bruised?

  19. Old-fashioned values could be key to unemployment crisis

    Journal columnist
“Work harder: Millions on welfare are counting on you.” I must admit the pithy bumper sticker made me chuckle. I appreciate wit even when sometimes it cuts. As I reflected on Labor Day about the current frenzy about the dismal reports on...

  21. Tough as a pine knot

Jess Clarkson, Jr., 86, of Kings Mountain is still “tough as a pine knot” like he was when he fought his way across Italy, France and into Germany during World War II. The former infantryman’s memory is sharp as a tack too and his recollections of his journey from Lincoln County to a German POW camp are as vivid and smooth flowing as a well edited movie. In our continuing effort to capture as much of the county’s living history as possible, we recently sat down on Clarkson’s, or “Junior’s”, deck to listen to his story.
