  3. From the Farm: Cold temps have ruined some garden goodies

Saturday’s Farmers’ Market day was cool, cloudy and breezy. Most of our farmers, growers and vendors were present with a nice variety of spring veggies. Asparagus and rhubarb quickly sold out, followed by the crisp, green lettuces and onions.

  5. Food on the Table: Cranberries: A Festive Fall Fruit

Once called ‘crane berry’ by early settlers, due to its blossom’s resemblance to the sandhill crane, cranberries are most popular at Thanksgiving. However, this little, red fruit packs a powerful flavor and health punch and is very versatile. This holiday season; take extra notice and enjoy this festive fruit.

  11. From the Farm: Weather is unsettled

As I write this, I am listening to the rumble of thunder and rain pelting the windows. Last week, the wind was so strong, I thought our house was going to tumble down the hill. The weather is unsettled as we move into spring. I just hope we don’t experience any tornadoes or other violent weather.

  13. From the Farm: Spring is just around the corner

It has been a windy but somewhat warmer weekend. The last of the snow has melted off for now. Supposed to be even warmer later this week. Everyone will be wanting to be outside including me. That first taste of warmer temperatures, after the cold, snowy days of winter, draws me to the herb and flower beds to check for the first brave little souls to push through the soil. It is a little early yet, but soon chives and other hardy herbs will peek out as well as crocus. Daffodils, tulips and hyacinths will soon follow. Spring is just around the corner.
