  1. The Republican case for same-sex marriage

Marylanders have an important decision to make this Election Day: whether or not to affirm their belief in the traditional American principle of equal rights for all, or instead to continue a system of special rights for some. A "yes" vote on Question 6 would sustain the Maryland legislature's recent historic vote that gave gay and lesbian couples to same right to marry as heterosexuals. A "no" vote would repeal marriage equality, perpetuating the unequal system of granting all the legal privileges and perks of marriage to heterosexual couples only.

  3. Romney's bizarre neo-con dalliance

  7. Editorial: Honor the fallen in the civil rights war too

On Memorial Day, we will again honor Americans who died in service to their country. Many of these men and women were, of course, gay, serving under that shameful compromise known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and in deeper secrecy before that. With...

  9. Fracking requires more scrutiny

Hooray for Del. Heather Mizeur for staring down oil companies over fracking in Maryland ("No studies? No fracking," Sept. 13). Delegate Mizeur is demanding solid, scientific studies of all the risks of fracking before allowing it here. The oil industry...

  11. Chan Lowe: Mitt Romney and Trump

While today’s cartoon more directly addresses Birtherism than my effort of a couple of days ago, it is less about that topic than about the character of Mitt Romney, and the lengths to which he is willing to go to fulfill his dreams. John...

  13. Unconventional

A nation of predominantly couch-bound television watchers got some bad news tonight, as President Barack Obama accepted his party's nomination and delivered the following line: "America's not about what can be done for us, it's about what can be done by us."

  15. No denying Ryan's lying

The GOP is constantly puffing up their vice presidential nominee, Rep. Paul Ryan, as the most honest politician to come along since President Abraham "Honest Abe" Lincoln, claiming that he's not afraid to tell people the hard truth no matter what the...

  23. The candidates vs. the Bill of Rights

Back in the early days of the Republic, the framers went to great trouble to draft and ratify the Bill of Rights. And every four years, our leaders pay homage to the framers by neglecting or disparaging that creation.
