1. The Bookworm Sez: Make time for these tomes this summer

You’ve got your summer all planned out. Weekends with family are starting to fill in between trips and festivals. You’ve got a few household chores planned, some exploring around town, a bit of a roadtrip, and plenty of dates with a cold one in the back yard.

I love history and genealogies. In fact, I excelled in history in school. History fascinates me because I enjoy learning where we, as a people, have come from and the events of the past. Just in the last few weeks, I finished reading a book on John F....

  13. LIFE MATTERS: Make a difference on Nov. 6

With every flyer I placed on a doorknob, I felt a surge of energy: I was actually making a difference, and for an 11-year-old kid, that’s a big deal. I had taken Judge Loys Criswell’s request to help him in his reelection campaign for Associate District Judge of Jackson County, Okla., as seriously as if I had been asked to be the campaign manager for the President of the United States. And when mom knocked on my bedroom door, informing me the Judge had won, I put down my comic book, glanced at the judge’s campaign poster hanging on my wall, swelled with pride and felt I had been a player in the world of politics.
