1. New 'Arrested Development': All re-dressed up and ready to go

"Arrested Development" costume designer Katie Sparks, whose efforts on the first two seasons of the Fox sitcom earned her a 2006 nomination from the Costume Designers Guild of America, was tapped by series creator Mitchell Hurwitz to work on the new streaming-to-Netflix season that will be released May 26. She recently spoke about her work on the original series and the challenges posed by revisiting — and re-dressing — the quirky Bluth family after a seven-year hiatus. And, for the first time, she explained how she found a perfect pair of denim cutoffs for the "never nude" Tobias Fünke.

  3. The once-humble slip-on sneaker steps up in style – and price

Thanks to the fashion world's enthusiastic embrace of surf/skate culture over the decades, the Vans-style slip-on sneaker — a simple, unadorned, lace-free upper attached to a rubber sole — has become an instantly recognizable Southern California silhouette and an uncluttered canvas for self-expression, not only for Vans, but also for countless other brands.

It's two days after the Met Gala, the Costume Institute’s annual Vogue magazine-sponsored fundraiser, and the “Punk: Chaos to Couture” exhibition opening, and people are still buzzing about the red carpet parade — Miley Cyrus’ spikey hair, Nicole Richie’s grayed-out pompadour and pregnant Kim Kardashian’s gloved Givenchy getup.

  13. Prada, Baz Luhrmann fete 'Great Gatsby' costumes on starry night

Director/producer/writer Baz Luhrmann must be pretty proud of his latest offering, "The Great Gatsby," due out May 10. At least it looked that way Tuesday night in New York at Prada's cocktail reception kicking off the SoHo store's exhibit of the movie's costumes, designed by Luhrmann's wife, Oscar-winning costume designer Catherine Martin, in collaboration with fashion designer Miuccia Prada. One might say he embodied the phrase "busting his buttons" (as seen here). Some of the movie's stars -- Carey Mulligan, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher -- attended, as did Katy Perry, Florence Welch and Maggie Gyllenhaal. [WWD]

  17. Coachella 2013: Down deep in the dance grooves

The heaviest place to be at Coachella 2013, from a sound perspective, wasn't in the sweet spot of the Main Stage rig while Phoenix was preparing for the arrival of R. Kelly, or at the heart of the Sahara stage during Baauer's big, dumb, joyous set of beat music, heavy on the synth riffs and dirty beats.
