While vowing to help them hang on to their seats, Democrats tacitly acknowledged on Tuesday that South Florida Congressmen Patrick Murphy and Joe Garcia are among the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress.
They were listed along with 24 others in the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Frontline” program, designed to protect their most vulnerable incumbents.
Murphy moved from Fort Lauderdale to Jupiter to oust Republican Allen West last year. Garcia, a Cuban-American from Miami, defeated Republican David Rivera. Both are in swing districts with lots of Republicans.
DCCC Chairman Steve Israel put a positive spin on the list, saying the 26 were “on the vanguard of protecting and expanding the middle class.”
“These battle-tested men and women have proven time and again that they can win because no one better reflects the values of their districts,” said Israel, D-N.Y.
The designation might help these members get some extra money and other help from the national party.
Rep. Tim Walz, D-Minn., a Frontline alum, will lead the effort.
