  1. An icon smashed

The International Cycling Union's announcement today that it was stripping superstar athlete Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles over charges of illegal doping effectively ended one of the most celebrated sports careers in recent memory. Mr. Armstrong's name is to be removed from the Tour's official record books, and he is banned for life from future competitions. It's likely the International Olympic Committee will move soon to strip him of his 2000 Olympic bronze medal as well, and corporate sponsors may demand he return millions of dollars in now-tainted winnings.

  5. Commentary: Armstrong's excuse for not appealing not good enough for me

Earlier this week, Lance Armstrong stepped down as the chairman of the Livestrong Foundation and lost endorsements with Nike, Anheuser-Busch and a host of other sponsors. Last week, the U.S.  anti-doping agency released a report detailing allegations of widespread doping use by Armstrong and his teams. The agency has already stripped him of his seven Tour de France wins and banned him for life.

  7. Orioles finally get a crack at their long-time tormenters from New York

Against anyone else, it would have seemed preposterous when the 12-year-old boy's hand reached into the field of play to change the course of the Orioles' 1996 playoff run.

He's one of the greatest pitchers in Major League Baseball history and on Tuesday, the Rocket lands on the mound at Sovereign Banks Stadium. Now 50 years old, Roger Clemens tosses a warmup session in front of fans in York. Clemens says he is just having fun after making one start for the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League. He is being courted by the league to get involved in some capacity, perhaps as an owner of a possible expansion team in Texas. His trip this week to Pennsylvania allows him to take a look at the Revolution's setup in York.
