3. Broncos like Ravens-like toughness of their defense

The Denver Post
The purple-and-black clad Ravens long have been the NFL’s bruise brothers. With linebacker Ray Lewis leading the bullying, the Ravens’ defense beat people up and laid down the law, especially when playing at home. The Broncos know that...

5. With Cam Cameron gone, all eyes on Joe Flacco

If nothing else, the surprising in-season dismissal of Cam Cameron this week should provide some clarity at a time when the Ravens are going through a serious offensive identity crisis, but you may not like what it eventually reveals.

7. Competition for Ravens backup quarterback heats up

For the first time in his fledgling career, Tyrod Taylor's reign as the Ravens backup quarterback to Joe Flacco is being seriously challenged. But rather than feel threatened by the presence of Curtis Painter, Taylor is embracing the test that should play out when training camp opens later this month.

9. Which Joe Flacco will show up for Ravens against Redskins?

He has thrown his hands up in the air after a dropped pass, angrily ripped off his helmet after a stalled possession and loudly chastised himself after an errant throw.

11. New Ravens QB coach Jim Caldwell hopes to raise Joe Flacco's game

There was an assumption during Jim Caldwell's eight years as quarterbacks coach of the Indianapolis Colts that he didn't have much to do. By the time Caldwell arrived for the 2002 season, Peyton Manning was four years into what is now sure to be a Hall of Fame career and his numbers were already impressive for a young NFL quarterback.

15. If preseason is any indication, Joe Flacco will be Ravens' biggest weapon

Unless quarterback Joe Flacco plays next week against St. Louis, he just completed the best preseason of his five-year NFL career.

17. Views on adjusting to Jim Caldwell mixed

Jim Caldwell’s debut as the Ravens offensive coordinator did not go swimmingly as the offense went three-and-out in its first five possessions and didn’t record a first down until midway through the second quarter en route to the Ravens’ 34-17 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday.

19. Ravens news, notes and opinions

The Ravens do a great job of moving beyond injuries, not fretting about them publicly and not using them as excuses. However, I’d have to think that there is significant concern in the Castle about the health of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. Ngata is dealing with knee and shoulder injuries and Harbaugh was noncommittal Monday when asked about whether he could be held back a little to make sure he’s healthy for the end of the season. And the reality is that Ngata at 50 percent is far better than anything else that the Ravens could put out there. However, after having nearly two full weeks to rest, Ngata was held without a tackle and wasn’t much of a factor in the 25-15 victory last Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. It’s true that Ngata’s pressure on Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden led to Cary Williams’ third-quarter interception. It also should be mentioned that Ngata drew a ton of attention from Pro Bowl center Alex Mack and others. Still, it’s alarming that Ngata didn’t have a single tackle when the Browns ran the ball 27 times. Injuries really limited Ngata’s production down the stretch last year and the already-struggling Ravens’ defense can’t afford to have that happen again.
